    NOTE

    1. If the bag/cover is installed, do not do steps A, B, C, D, E, F and H.

    2. The two types of covers are installed on the transportation stand in the same position.

    1. The type of bag/cover to be installed.

      1. Engine build-up unit (EBU) and spareable engine have IAE 6F10078 MI bag 1 off or IAE 6R19563 MI bag 1 off or IAE 6R19565 MI bag 1 off installed.

      2. Demountable power plant and quick engine change unit (QEC) have IAE 6F10287 Storage cover 1 off or IAE 6R19562 MI bag 1 off or IAE 6R19564 VMI bag 1 off installed.

    2. Do TASK 71-00-00-560-001 (REMOVAL-001), move the engine from the transportation stand to the support pedestals.

    3. Make sure the bag/cover is clean.

    4. Remove the front and rear support brackets.

      1. Remove the eight bolts and the eight washers that attach the front support brackets to the transportation stand.

      2. Remove the front support brackets and put them on a suitable surface.

      3. Remove the eight nuts and the eight bolts that attach the rear support brackets to the transportation stand.

      4. Remove the rear support brackets and put them on a suitable surface.

    5. Position the bag/cover on the transportation stand. Align the holes in the bag/cover with the holes on the transportation stand.

    6. Install the front and rear support brackets.

      1. Attach the front support brackets to the front support struts with the eight bolts and the eight washers.

      2. Tighten the bolts to safety.

      3. Attach the rear support brackets to the rear support struts with the eight bolts and the eight nuts.

      4. Tighten the bolts and the nuts to safety.

    7. Make sure the bag/cover is clean.

    8. Do TASK 71-00-00-560-002, move the engine from the support pedestals to the transportation stand.

    9. CAUTION

WHEN THE DESICCANT CONTAINERS ARE OPENED, IT IS IMPORTANT THAT THE DESICCANT IS PUT INTO THE STORAGE COVER AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE AND THE COVER IS CLOSED, IN ORDER TO MINIMISE EXPOSURE TO THE ATMOSPERE.

Put CoMat 02-076 HUMIDITY INDICATOR CARD in the pocket supplied on the bag/cover.

    10. Put the necessary quantity of CoMat 02-075 DESICCANT (DEHYDRATING AGENT) for the condition of storage. The quantity of desiccant is shown in step K.

    11. NOTE

      1. Ensure that the desiccant does not touch the power plant.

      2. The quantities of desiccant quoted in the tables below are calculated based on the inspection frequency described in SUBTASK 72-00-00-230-052. Alternative quantities of desiccant are permitted subject to an alternative humidity indicator inspection plan. Desiccant must be replaced if humidity indicators show unsafe.

Quantity of desiccant necessary for the engine storage.

      1. CAUTION

DO NOT PLACE DESICCANT IN DIRECT CONTACT WITH THE ENGINE BECAUSE THIS CAN CAUSE CORROSION.

        NOTE

In the two tables that follow arid conditions are not more than 40 percent (monthly average) of humidity. Temperate conditions are more than the humidity of 40 percent and not more than 80 percent (monthly average). Tropical is more than 80 percent humidity (monthly average).

Position the desiccant packages equally along the length of the engine.

      2. IAE 6F10287 Storage cover 1 off, IAE 6F18903 Storage cover 1 off, IAE 6R19562 MI bag 1 off, IAE 6R19564 VMI bag 1 off:

    12. Carefully position the top half of the bag/cover over the engine. Seal the bag/cover with the lock slider that is supplied with the cover.

    13. Examine the bag/cover:

      1. Torn or pierced refer to Step 1.

    14. Install the front and rear freight guards to the transportations stand.

  2. SUBTASK 72-00-00-230-052 Examine the Engine After Packing

    NOTE

Humidity indicators generally stay blue if the humidity is less than the specified limit (40 percent). If the color changes to pink the humidity is more than the specified limit.
    1. NOTE

This inspection regime is a guideline based on the quantities of desiccant recommended in Step 3. Deviation from this is permitted providing that inspections are periodic and are not more than 28 days.

Examine the humidity indicator 24 hours, 7 days and then at regular 28 day cycles after the bag/cover is closed.

Depending on the indicated humidity inside the VMI bag, do the steps that follow:

      1. If the indicated humidity is less than 40 percent (blue color), no action is necessary.

      2. If the indicated humidity is between 40 and 60 percent for one inspection, but less than 40 percent at the next inspection, no action is necessary.

      3. If the indicated humidity is more than 40 percent for more than one inspection, continue with step B.

    2. If CoMat 02-076 HUMIDITY INDICATOR CARD shows an exceedance as per Step 4.A, continue as follows:

      1. NOTE

If appreciable amounts of moisture are found upon inspection, the engine/QEC unit should be dried as appropriate.

Open the IAE 6F10078 MI bag 1 off, IAE 6F10287 Storage cover 1 off, IAE 6R19562 MI bag 1 off, or IAE 6F18903 Storage cover 1 off, IAE 6R19563 MI bag 1 off, IAE 6R19565 MI bag 1 off, IAE 6R19564 VMI bag 1 off and examine the engine or QEC unit for signs of corrosion. If you find corrosion, re-protect components as detailed in TASK 72-00-00-500-002, SUBTASK 72-00-00-550-057.

      2. Inspect the VMI bag for signs of damage as detailed in Step 1 and repair as necessary as detailed in Step 2.

      3. Renew the desiccant and place new CoMat 02-076 HUMIDITY INDICATOR CARD in the pocket supplied on the VMI bag/Storage cover.

      4. NOTE

Where alternatives to VMI bags are used, that do not have a pocket for the humidity indicator, it must be positioned so that it is visible without breaking the seal on the storage cover. The indicator must not be placed in direct contact with the desiccant.

        Re-seal the VMI bag.
