Examine IAE 6F10078 MI bag 1 off, IAE 6F10287 Storage cover 1 off, or IAE 6F18903 Storage cover 1 off, IAE 6R19562 MI bag 1 off, IAE 6R19563 MI bag 1 off, IAE 6R19564 VMI bag 1 off, IAE 6R19565 MI bag 1 off.

If the bag/cover is dirty or contains fluid, clean the bag/cover with CoMat 12-032 DETERGENT. Make sure the cover is dry.

Cracks to the interlock closures – Reject.

If the cover is torn:

Less than 3.00 in. (76.6 mm) in length refer to Step 2.

More than 3.00 in. (76.6 mm) then reject the bag/cover.

If the cover is pierced:

Less than 1.00 in. (25.4 mm) in diameter refer to Step 2.

NOTE
There is no limit to the number of patches which can be applied, but no two patches can go over each other.
More than 1.00 in. (25.4 mm) in diameter then reject the bag/cover.

2. SUBTASK 72-00-00-350-051 Repair the Vapor Moisture Impervious (VMI) Bag and Storage Cover (If Necessary)

NOTE
The repair kit is included as part of the bag/cover.

Repair to areas not adjacent to the seams:

Use materials contained in the repair kit, cut two patches that overlap the damaged area by 1.50 in. (38.1 mm) circular.

Clean the damaged area on the internal side and the external side of the bag/cover and one side of the patches with CoMat 12-032 DETERGENT. Permit the bag/cover and the patches to dry.

Apply a layer of adhesive to the clean side of the patches and the mating area on the bag/cover. Permit 15 minutes to dry.

Put one patch on the external side of the damaged bag/cover and the second patch on the internal side of the damaged bag/cover. Push the two patches together.

Cut two slots in the external patch to accept the raised seam that is not cut away.

Do Step 2.A.(3), Step 2.A.(4) and Step 2.A.(5).

Put CoMat 02-076 HUMIDITY INDICATOR CARD in the pocket supplied on the bag/cover.

Put the necessary quantity of CoMat 02-075 DESICCANT (DEHYDRATING AGENT) for the condition of storage. The quantity of desiccant is shown in step K.

NOTE
Ensure that the desiccant does not touch the power plant.

The quantities of desiccant quoted in the tables below are calculated based on the inspection frequency described in SUBTASK 72-00-00-230-052. Alternative quantities of desiccant are permitted subject to an alternative humidity indicator inspection plan. Desiccant must be replaced if humidity indicators show unsafe.

Quantity of desiccant necessary for the engine storage.

CAUTION
DO NOT PLACE DESICCANT IN DIRECT CONTACT WITH THE ENGINE BECAUSE THIS CAN CAUSE CORROSION.
NOTE
In the two tables that follow arid conditions are not more than 40 percent (monthly average) of humidity. Temperate conditions are more than the humidity of 40 percent and not more than 80 percent (monthly average). Tropical is more than 80 percent humidity (monthly average).
